I've been trying a similar experiment without asking anyone else to switch. Everyone else at work already uses webmail, which has worked great. However, using Google Docs, even with offline support, has been a nightmare. It is just not ready for prime time. When using Firefox, once the document is over a couple of pages Google Docs will crash. When loading the main docs page, I literally have to wait 18 minutes, and hope it doesn't crash. I have various documents that I am working on at different times, without any fancy formatting, and they pages take forever to load. I know it isn't Firefox because everything else is fast, except Google Docs. Using Google Docs in Opera is much faster, but it still crashes.

This is a great list. We've struggled with the expensive licenses and support on that 'Big' brands products. We've found a variety of applications that have made our office so much more efficient. Even basic products like Google Apps helps us avoid things like Excel.

The only drawback we've encountered was that you are limited on some of the typical formulas and functions that might be required (and took so long to memorize) by your accounting or finance teams.

Very nice article.
